Six Day Trips Worth Taking From Brno

Forty-five minutes south of Brno, the Lednice–Valtice complex is one of Europe's largest designed landscapes, with a neo-Gothic chateau, greenhouse and long avenues between vineyards. Half a day is enough; a full day if you add wine tasting in Valtice.

Thirty minutes north, the Punkva Caves and the Macocha Abyss make an easy morning out, including a short boat ride on the underground river. Book cave tickets in advance in summer.

Under two hours away. A single day covers the Ringstrasse, Schönbrunn or the museum quarter comfortably if you are driven door to door rather than working around coach timetables.

Around two and a half hours by road. A long day, but entirely feasible with an early start — and far less tiring when you can sleep on the way back.

Three hours west, Český Krumlov is a UNESCO town small enough to see on foot in an afternoon. This is the trip where a private car saves the most time, since public transport requires several changes.

An hour north-east, Olomouc offers a UNESCO Holy Trinity Column, a serious cathedral and none of the crowds — the best value half-day trip from Brno.
